Rokeby Manor, Landour

About the hotel

Rokeby Manor is a quaint English country style hotel nestled in the hills of Landour, Mussoorie. Restored to its original 19th century decor, this heritage building is resplendent with character in its elaborate brick arches, niches and intricate stone walls. The rustic rooms have retained their original real wood floors, beams and cosy fireplaces and are decorated with charming little details from patchwork quilts to floral motifs on the walls. Rokeby is surrounded by the views of the Doon Valley, snow peaks of the Himalayas and cedar and oak forests. Mussoorie has a lot to offer from nature walks to mountain biking, trekking and scenic drives. Take a deep breath and enjoy the peace and quiet of this place.

Rokeby was built in 1840 by Captain G.N. Cauthy and is one of the landmarks of Landour. The house and two acre estate are situated slightly above and to the east of St. Paul's Church and the old cantonment parade ground, which is now Char Dukan. Like many houses in Mussoorie, its name is taken from the writings of Sir Walter Scott, whose book-length poem describes heroic battles near the original Rokeby Castle in England.

Methodist missionaries continued to operate the property as a guest house throughout the rest of the 20th century. Today, Rokeby has been carefully restored to its original glory. This heritage building is resplendent with character in its elaborate brick arches and niches, intricate stone walls, real wood floors and beams, and cosy fireplaces
